hey i've got clay in my water from not cleaning my substrate enough. my question is will it eventually setle. do i need to do a 100% water change or will it settle/ go through filtration?,im not in a rush and i will be doing 10-15% wc every week so i can wait 3-4 weeks.i will also be purchasing an fx5 in the next 4-5 weeks maybe 6.

If you do a water change you'll still up what has settled too.

What kind of filter do you have?

Can you put polishing pads or material in it (felt or poly-fil)?

Howdy,

That happens when you use playsand or such. No problemo. Matter of fact, it's great substrate fertilizer for planted tanks. Since it seems to be a new set-up, simply change all water. Refill. If it's still murky, then change 100% again. Repeat until clear. Refilling will stir up previously sedimented particles, which you will remove with your repeated full water changes.

It is generally not a great idea to have the filter clean it, because these particles can erode the impeller (and/or shaft). Polishing pads suggested by Dr work, though.

Good luck,
