Is this fairly standard behaviour? Seems to be very particular about how the nest (I assume it's a nest) presents and where the substrate sits. And quite protective of it against the pleco in the tank. Often will follow the pleco around the tank or bump into it as if on purpose, also has taken a few bites at it too. Pleco is about 6 inches long. Unsure whether he will have to go as I don't want the pleco beaten up.

Also another question: I see alot of videos of super active fh's. Mine is quite active, swim back and forth doing "front and back flips" until I walk past the tank and it then will go back into its hidey hole. I'm ok to sit in my chair and watch from 2 metres away, but if i get up, it instantly goes back into nest.

Very good eater. Eats ocean free fh-g1

She? Is about 4 inches long at the moment

Sorry for long post. TIA20180501_084218.jpg 20180501_085318.jpg 20180501_085339.jpg

my experience with female flowerhorns is that most of them are quite skittish than males. so it might take time for it to go up and down the tank and be the food beggar like how most flowerhorns are.
dont do sudden movements around the tank too much and when you are feeding it dont just throw it inside but make it starve a bit and offer them small amounts of food at a time to ensure that when they see your hand they will assume that its feeding time. that way they can gain their trust on you. that is how i train my fish.

Cheers!

Also has anyone had any luck with "cleaner fish" as in Plecos with fh's. I'm starting to think mine might have to go. Found a chunk bitten out of the dorsal on him this morning and I don't want him harassed

Think the pleco has to go. Fh will just not leave him alone during feeding or when it's hungry. I've got. To stand by the tank while feeding so the fh stays in its cave so the pleco can get the algae wafer. Not much of a life for it

The FH will kill the Pleco. Your better off with taking out the Pleco.
FHs usually live alone.

You might have already done so but I'd suggest to take out the pleco; not only will it get killed eventually but worse if big enough your FH might eat it and die from the pleco barbs getting stuck inside. Nice looking pearly female, good luck with her.

Ended up removing the pleco but now the algae issues haha... Fh is wayyyy more active and a much happier fish she's on her own now.

Pleco was beat up but has healed nearly all the way in its new temp tank until I can rehome it.

Few photos of fh now, pleco when it was removed and now after healing up. 20180525_080433.jpg Screenshot_20180525-080749_Gumtree.jpg 20180525_074518.jpg

What a nice pleco do not put it back in.

He's got great colours and has healed really well. Was worried fin rot may have happened but all the splits have nearly completely shut. Hes in a tank at the moment with a bristlenose, 6 clear catfish and a few khulli loaches until I can find him a new home. Was wishful thinking I could have him with the fh
