is it possible to have a cleanup crew w/o snails? i really don't like the look of snails (maybe it's because of the infestation of mts i had in my fw planted tank).
is there a slug, sea cucumber or starfish that does the same job? the tank is 30gal if volume matters in this case. i'll get snails if i have to just curious. also shrimp compatibility with other shrimp is something i haven't seen discussed too much. in a 30g could i house a coral banded and a peppermint or a couple skunk cleaner? thanks for the help

Sure but it won't be much of a crew. Hermit crabs, other crabs, brittle stars etc can all serve to help eliminate nuisance algae and detrius, but not to the extent that a well balanced group of snails can. Remember, clean up crews are not a "must have" so you can make it whatever you want. Just be prepared to clean your glass and powerheads pretty often with out the snails.

As far as the shrimp, Peppermint and Skunk cleaners should be compatible with each other, and you can keep multiple skunk cleaners in the same tank given enough tankspace. The coral banded I have no idea though.
