hi there, i am currently running a Brackish water tank, with 3 Archer Fish, but i need something to help clean up the waste... I do have a Fluvel 305 ex-filter running, about 20gal of water, but as i feed them live crickets, there is sometimes more mess than normal tanks... so what can i get to help clean up the water??? I am most definatley going to have problems with algae so i need possibly a snail that can survive in Bracksih conditions... its currently at 1.004? i tink that is how you write it... anyway, i can;t use shrimp as my archers love em!!! i dont know of any plecos that tolerate salt... and snails seem to be either freshwater or full marine?? i need some help as the longet i have nothing eating algae the more is going to build up!!! so i need some help quick pleasE?? thanks

algeaus scrapus?

Dormiator maculatus is said to eat at algae but get bullied by a lot of normal brackish fish like your archers. mollies eat at algae i think, but there isnt really a good algae eater for brackish tanks (esp. more agressive brackish fish)

sorry, googled this and can't find anything? :(

I have known somebody who converted a common pleco over to a brackish tank over sevearl months. How good that is on the pleco I don't really know. It has been in there for about a year with no ill effects. That isn't a fast solution but it is somthing you could try.

Um, I don't really know brackish fish to well so I am not really sure of any of them to suggest.

So really your best bet would be just to clean of the aglae manually or dim the light on your tank so that the algae isn't able to grow. That is what I had to do on my ray tank, since I can't have a pleco with them. Ever since dimming the lights I havne't had any algae problems, I don't even have any algae or at least any algae that is visable.

really dont use a pleco. sorry it might be spelt Dormitator maculatus, but either way i think it might be archer food.

Yeah I wouldn't really suggest a pleco either, now that I think about it. It is just somthing that I have seen done. It really wouldn't be the best thing for a pleco.

i wouldnt put any pleco in brackish water just because they come from soft blackwaters, the opposite of brackish. ive seen plecos kept in brackish water and they swell up really big and develop huge boils as they can not pass excess water because their osmosis regulatory organs can not function. common pleco, H. plecostomus is the most adaptable/hardy pleco, but still dont think it will live a long happy life

I am suprised that, that hasn't happend to my friends.

Awaous banana river goby love algae.
