i just bought a second hand eheim pro 2 2028 filter that was used for a marine tank, it has lots of little white things in the inside of the filter. what is it and how do i clean it properly?

Salts, calcium build-up.

Remove any seals...

Try letting it soak in vinegar. (check it every so often) should come off in 15 minutes to 2 days :D.

i have cleaned about 90% of the little white things off the canister and the media baskets. will the remaining affect the water in my freshwater set up?

What's the matter arms getting tired .

As long as your sure it's calcium/salt deposits and your fish aren't sensitive to salt, it could be a little benefit. Trace elements and all. :D

Just make sure its not going on a planted tank. The salt will kill the plants.

since you have already cleaned it and rinse it well, there is no problem putting it in the tank. any remaining mineral buildup will eventually dissolve into the water, but the amount that is left will have no effect on water parameters. the tiny amount will be diluted to almost nothing in the tank and removed with water changes.

yeh lol been trying to get most of it off last nite and been doing muay thai so my arms are hurting. they are little, round, white and look like snails.

sounds maybe like the dead shells of pods or teeny baby snails? either way it won't hurt your tank and they'll dissolve eventually.
