I might have a large boar head coming to me and i want to clean the skull and mount it. are there any techniques that would consist of using household items. i dont want to buy acid and beetles to eat the meat off. Is there mre to it than just boiling it off?

if you can put it out in the woods and let nature take its course. but be sure to tie it down or the bigger critters may run off w/ it. or boil it in a big pot for a few hrs at a time then change waters betwwen boils then bleach it.

If it were summer time, you could put it near an ant hill! :D

Boiling it is probably your best choice. And I agree, you could probably leave it outside somewhere and let mother nature take care of it. Just make sure larger animals like foxes and dogs can't get at it.

The meat doesn't just sloff off if you boil it.

You need to get a large kettle and some course nylon brushes from some place like home depot. From large down to toothbrush size.

Boil the head a little...take it out and brush the meat off. Then boil it again....brush the meat off.

You can blow the brains out with a water hose and high pressure nozzle.

Remove as much meat as possible prior to boiling. It stinks. It's best to do outside on a gas camping stove.

Be careful about over boiling or use chemicals like bleach. They can soften or eat into the bones.

i guess i took for granted my shortened version would work. manual cleaning berfore boiling is a must. and dilluted bleach will make it pretty white. or you can sun bleache it on your roof.
