Hello,
I'm master of 2 ropefish (calamoichthys calabaricus)
4 newts ( pachytriton labiatus) and 4 frogs.
A few days ago i cleaned the aquarium of my ropefish. Took all out.
Filter is unopened since a few days , I heard here he's dead then.
So i made a gravel bottom. The fish had to return in the aquarium relatively fast. I can't let the filter get started up.
My gravel is only an inch or 2 thick.
Should i augment the thickness of the substrate ? But i'm one of those who throws away the substrate after 6 or 8 weeks...
If I put a new filter on.. has anyone suggestions.
Carbon, peat, zeolit, glasswool
I'm afraid of amonia pushes etc...
The water is osmose
Is it best to save your old filter setup when you start a new aquarium ?
So the new water has something to develop on ?
Can this be replaced by putting startbacteria in the water and the filter ?
Do bacteria help against amonia pushes ?
I even tried zeolit in my substrate. That's fine as long as you replace it after it's absorbing term of 3 months or so.
best regards,
Tigra
