like the repti carpet? i spray it with a strong hose then soak in soapy water. then rise off, done!
I would remove it and switch to paper towel at least. Repti-carpet holds bacteria and even cleaning can not remove all of it.
I'm only using repti-carpet as I just recently got my leo I want to monitor him and his poop. 
But I'll be switching to slate tiles soon.

so even if I wash it with dish washing detergent and soak it for a while in hot water, I can never get it clean? What about the washing machine?
It may help. What are you keeping on the carpet? With lizards with claws they can get their claws caught in the carpet and ripped off. It's a hazard I would choose to avoid.
