As title says, I feed my fishes right amount and mostly no left overs. But there is one thing I am really tired of and that is pellet mess. The left behind pellet residue from shrimp pellets. I need to get some kind of bottom feeder which can be safe with other aggressive fish. Please advise. I am inclined toward a catfish but no experience at all except when kept cories back in the guppies and mollies days :p. I have pikes, JD and a Jaguar cichlid in there.

Well what I have is 4 clown loaches and yoyo loaches 3 of them they are all between 5 inches and 8 inches there is never pellet mess with that crew I have Matacastar polleni RTM and other mean fish never a problem

pterodoras granulosus or megalodoras irwini should be good if your tank is big enough

I know plecos do a splendid job at cleaning algae, but from my experience they also seem to eat the left over sinking pellets I have in my tank. But if I were you I'd go out to a lake, pond, or river and catch a bullhead catfish! I had one in my 120 for a while and he was like a vacuum! Eating everything from eating any left over food to actually eating the fish waste! I think yellow bullheads look nice as well. They only max out around 12" too. The best part is it's free! I'd recommend using cut store bought shrimp on a line just after sunset, I know I've unintentionally caught dozens while trying to catch channel catfish!

I would also recommend getting Hikari pellets (alot of protien and alot cleaner) atop of catching a bullhead, which is the fun part :)w

i'm partial to irwini and hoplo catfish, i have a 10" irwini and 4-5" hoplo in my 110 gallon. the irwini are very cool looking but only really active at night, i'm lucky mine at least "hides" right in the front of the tank during the day. the hoplo on the other hand is always very active. both will eat virtually anything i feed my tank (tilapia, massivore, market shrimp, krill, etc.)
