cleaning drift wood

OK I got this really cool piece of drift wood, I would like to put in my poly tank, But i do not no anything about it other then it has been in my grandmothers backyard for over 20 years. So I wanted to know how do others clean and or prepare drift wood for there tanks

well since its been outside you could toss it in a tub and soak it for a few weeks and change the water a few times.Then let it cook in the sun for a few days

bake it in the oven at 200 degrees or boil it..and soak it to get tannins out

I would of never thought to bake it

I couldn't boil it as this thing is 24in by 30in

I would hose it down and scrub off anything loose. If it's been out of the water for that long I highly doubt anything is left rotting in it.

I would of never thought to bake it

baking it at a low temp will kill off all paracites and any bacteria..works like boiling accept for bigger scale...

Remember to bake at low temp and just encase keep a fire extinguisher handy..
