I recently set up a 29 gallon tank, I'm going to make it into a planted tank with some micro-predators. I got a nice T5HO light, but I have noticed that the lid (it has one of those full hoods, with just a strip of clear plastic for light to shine through) is coated in whitish residue. I have tried cleaning it, but no luck. Vinegar doesn't work, and a razor doesn't help at all. Should I try soaking it in bleach?

I'd like to get it to be clear, as it is blocking light pointlessly.

Dude, the same here. The white residue is also on my black hood lights. I can't get it off either. Can anyone help some brotha's out. :)

i have the same! CLR seems to get rid of SOME of it but i have not found anything that clears it completely.

Sounds like my problem. I am on well water and it is extremely HARD!. So weekly I use table salt and a lemon (or juice) and make a paste to scrub the white residue off my lights so the light will shine through. Works for me.:D
