What should I use to clean out an old saltwater acrylic aquarium? As many of you know old saltwater tanks can be messy (white fungae/algae hard deposits etc). What should I use to clean it out? I was thinking alcohol, but wasn't sure and I hate to scratch acrylic. Please let me know.

I agree.

Thats gotta suck. So vinegar makes it easier to get off the white crusty stuff? The 220 gallon I was thinking about is actually closer to 300 I think with the measurements, so I may get it and try and repair it.

Vinegar or they make an aquatic safe cleaner that myself and pharoah use at times to help clean up our tanks before we chuck our fish in them.

Got a brand name?

I know API makes a cleaner that I have used, it workes well and it comes in a spray and a wipe

i used a wall paper steamer and mixed some water w/ vinegar and steamed the saltwater build up off...it came off pretty easy. of course it was just the top of a 29gal but same thing just MUCH larger...

I just cleaned out a 75 gallon salty tank for keeping my fronts. I placed the tank on 1" thick styrofoam and then half filled it with tap water. I then added 1/2 gallon of pool acid (muriatic) that I got from the local hardware store for $4. I filled the tank to the top with tap water and let it sit for two days.

After siphoning out the solution. I stood the tank up on its side and hosed it off. It came completely clean with no residue or scratches. Be carefull when siphoning the water, its very corosive. You don't want it on your lawn or concrete...

:naughty:
