Was doing a water change yesterday and remembered a accidentally dropped some food in my overflow so I put my siphon in there. What came up was an ungodly amount of stuff u had no idea was in there! I always took time to clean out the main tank, but overlooked cleaning out the overflow. I'm would imagine that this would also increase the need for water changes do to more organic material in the water.

I was thinking of tossing a crayfish in there to eat some of the matter that sits in there, but then might suck it up during maintenance.

Glad you made that discovery.I pull out and rinse my overflow sponge about once a week and there's all kinds of goop caught up in it sometimes.
