I have some tanks that are painted I was told by some one that has tanks painted that same way that they used oven cleaner to get that paint off. Would this be safe to use on a tank if I was to mask off the top? If not what would work better then a razor blade?

is the tank glass or acrylic?

oven cleaner is some serious stuff.. i wouldnt use it on a stocked tank...

They are all glass tanks. I will not be stocking for the next year or so, I just want to clean them before winter.

since they are glass and not stocked... just use a razor blade.. works like a dream.. but be sure to spend the $2 and get the handle.. makes the job soooo much easyer

I have 27 tanks to do and we can get snow any day now. So I am looking for fast and safe.

I have been using a razor, it has been taking up to hours to one tank.

Oven cleaner will melt the plastic trim on the tank somewhat. I would use paint stripper from a auto parts store. And then clean the tanks with soap and water very well.

Ok thanks I will try that.

Post back how it works because I have always wondered what I would use if I wanted to change the background color.
