OK, My cleaning pond filter experiment went wrong.....

I had to work out of town last month so I never had a chance to clean my floor buffing pad filters on my 700gal Koi pond.

So I get back to town and I think I should take the first few buffing pads out of their DIY drum filter and wash them clean.

But then I get a idea...
Yes, a crazy idea, but had it worked it would have been great!

My idea was to just take all the dirty, dirty, dirty, stinky buffing pad filters and dump them into the clothes washer.

"WHY?" you ask,

The idea I had was to not have to drag out the mile long garden hose and scrubber brush because it was raining out at the time and would have been a total mess.

My idea was just dump the dirty floor buffing pads into the clothes washer and go off get something to eat from town.
I could then come back home later and lift out the totally clean buffer pads out of the washer and put them back into the pond filter...DONE!

No mess
No hose to deal with.
No need to think cleaning the filter is a problem in the future too.
Ahh, it was going to be great!

Well what happend was that the dirty filters mixed with the small amount of soap I added and it all turned into a type of smelly thick white cream that flooded out the washer onto the floor...

The smelly, white "cream' was totally white,,,so white it was hard to look at,,,Blinding white!

What the heck was that all about?

lol...thanks for sharing, i hope it didn't ruin your washer

Could be two things. Washing machines don't totally empty during a spin cycle, there's always some water under the basket where you put the clothes and if there's any soapy water down there, like fronm somebody putting in too much detergent or an inadequate rinse cycle, it'll come right back up into whatever you're washing. The other possibility would be on some machines there is a hole/slot/place (I'm not sure what to call it) where detergent can be added rather than pouring it straight into the basket. If somebody used that in the past it may have had some residual detergent left in there that foamed up on you. Next time you might want to try running a rinse/spin cycle with nothing in the washer to prevent that from happening again.

I went and got ya a pic

Why would you add soap to clean filter pads?

yeah, really that did you a favor. If your washing them worked as you planned then the left over soap could of killed your fish...
