I thought i read about purging nightcrawlers on this site but wasn't able to come up with anything. Also the web. Can someone help me out?all i do is rinse them off under water and feed them to my fish.

You can let them purge themselves by putting them in a container with moist newspaper, I have fed my fish worms right after they were rinsed under the faucet :)

Rather than start a new thread, I'll revive this one. What's the best medium for purging 'crawlers? Newspaper, veggies, or something else? I only recently switched to bare tanks and while I never bothered to purge them before, I'm now seeing all the dirt (literally) that gets pooped onto the bottom of the tank very quickly after the fish eat.

No one purges or cleans the worms in the wild. LOL!

Yup. I served up hundreds to my fish from my backyard and never spent one minute to "clean" them other than rinsing them off. Fish in the wild consume dirt, sand, shells, poop all the time.

Is it a little more to clean during a WC? Sure, but not much.

I stick them in a cup of water for a little bit and then run my fingers, pinched from head to tail, zips the mud right out of them

I culture my own red wigglers. Mine eat fruit and veggie scraps from our kitchen, primarily. I just grab a handful of them from the bin, drop them in a little tub and run water on them. Then into the tanks for feeding.

Dingdingding, winner! That seems like the simplest answer. It's amazing how much dirt ends up on the floor of the tank after the fish eat nightcrawlers, and this method will save both time and effort. Thanks!
