I just bought a 100 gallon Rubbermaid tub that was used for a saltwater sump. I want to use it for freshwater. How do I clean the purple algae off so it's ok for freshwater? I've seen people scrubbing with vinegar or scraping with razor blades for tanks but was hoping for something easier for a giant tub.
Thanks!

No real easy way about it. Little time, elbow grease, vinegar or diluted bleach should do it. Have done the same several times. Once you get it pretty decent, toss water in it and let it sit a day or so. Drain/repeat. Check paramaters. If youre decent, should be good to go.

I filled mine with a vinegar solution and let it sit for a day or so. Then I powerwashed it, that seemed to do the trick.

I spent a couple hours yesterday applying a lot of elbow grease! Got it almost done. Going to try soaking the bottom with vinegar then trying the power washer thing! Thanks for the tips!
