Whats up Guys and Gals. Been really busy for the past few weeks trying to get my GF;s 40 gallon up n runnnig. P.I.T.A.!

Anyway while I was putting pool sand in it I had a brain fart and just dumped it in there. I didn't have a strainer or anything small enough to prevent the sand from fallign through as I cleaned it.

So I 'm wondering how you peeps clean sand?

I thought I could dump it into a 5 gallon pail full of water and pour off the silt and dusty stuff that clouds the water. Is this the ticket or what ??

Thanks in advance!

sounds like you got the right idea or what i've heard of doing is takeing a garden hose and putting it at the bottom of a bucket dump the sand on top of it and turn the hose on the let the bucket over flow and stir up the sand every few seconds the heavy grains of sand will stay and the dust and light particles will get carried off with the over flowing water

Fill the bucket half full with sand, then get a hose in spray it around in the sand. Tilt it a bit so the water drains out, and just keeping shooting the water through the sand. Drain the water and repeat with more sand.

With pool filter sand, it shouldn't take too long. I did 50 pounds and didn't need to rinse it much at all.

works every time

I used an old pillow case poured some sand in while my buddy kept pouring water in the pillow case and mixed it around with my hand. Worked pretty good.
