Cleaning sand tricks and tips!!!

just converted to sand and have done a few WCs now and its pissing me off! the big bichir craps wont go up the tube and i cant put the hose to the bottom to create more suction cuz ill suck up a bunch of sand. its a pain to clean for me. anybody got any secrets they wanna spill? thanks in advance

I Got a long turkey baster.

If u dont mind gettin hands a little wet, just reach in and use it to suck 'em out.

Quite a lot of suction power can be generated by the turkey baster!

I use it in my O tank cuz some poops float.

Use a powerhead with a 2" pick-up tube, it creates enough suction to p/u garbage and not sand, just don't put it too close to the sand or it will.

Use your regular syphon and some thing (yard stick) to stir up the water a bit right in front of the pick-up. Takes a little practice... but what else you got to do?!

i had this problem too. i bought a thinner siphon.

you could also just take the siphon off of the hose and suck the crap up with the hose

With the change to sand, do you like sand better? I see the cleaning is causing issues, but overall, what are the pro and cons of sand? And is there a "heavy" sand that would be better?
