Hi! I have a question about the putting sand in the tanks for the poly's. How do you go about cleaning it? I have smaller gravel in my tank, so I use a gravel vac, but a lot of the time I suck out gravel, so I have to hold the hose higher than I normally would so there is less suction. Is that how you would clean the sand? Or is there some special way that I just don't know of/thought of. Thanks! Sorry if this has been asked a million and one times already.

Just keep the vac above the surface of the stand, and move it in circular motions. That will kick up the debris and make them easier to catch without removing too much sand.

cleaning sand can be an art form. When you notice it going up the cleaning tube just lift
the tube slightly it should all fall back down-Anne

Thanks :) I really like how the sand looks, and know its good for the poly's to have so they don't eat gravel, I used to have nothing but goldfish, and I lost a couple due to them choking on gravel...:(

I usually don't vac my sand, I just stir the crap out of it before I drain the tank. My bichirs constantly dig and that stupid giant goldfish that lives with them is always combing the sand for food so detrius doesn't really build up on or in the sand.
