Cleaning sand?

How do u clean ur sand im thinking of switching to sand from gravel. Gravel i use a syphon do i use one for sand???

with sand all the poop and debris just sits on the surface so its much easier to clean all you need is a long tube and hold it just high enough off the bottom to suck up the debris but not the sand

You can even use it in the sand like gravle if you put a choke on the plastic tube (I use felt coverd NN pliers). I do this about every 6 weeks just to move it around a bit, and it gets some of the super fine particulates that settel in the sand.

The suction can get pretty intense, so if you've got anything bitty in there, you might want to check the bucket before you dump. It took me a couple of tries to realize I was sucking up and throwing out my MTS.
