I think I might have a build up of gunk in my overflow syphon to the sump but there’s an annoying s-bend I can’t get around. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how I could clean without pulling it all apart.

Cheers LBDave LBDave ive tried the other options so I’ll try this one
It works well for me. Mostly on my smaller tank with a 1" main drain. I have also used it on by tank with 1 1/2" main drain and similar overflow. Check out the length and that it fits your needs. Sometimes it gets a little stuck when going through all the bends on the 1" pipe but I'm always able to pull it out. I clean the pipes with the water pumps running. Right before I do maintenance cleaning the filter and the tank glass. Then water cahnge.

I use brushes too.

But they only reach partially.
In and place where the length of pipe gets long, or conveluted,
I install unions, so I can (more or less) easily detach areas that are hard to get at.
These 2 unions were cut in after the fact, when I realized it was easier to clean out rater than messing with the bulk heads.

I now put unions wherever I end up with a long length of pipe.

As you can see above, there are 2 unions on the left on the overflow, and the one far right, coming from the sump.
There ae also clean out valves, that are just as easily glued int PvC, that make cleaning ot gunk even easier.
The one below is large, but they make much smaller versions, and the concept is the same. I cut PVC the same way for my Unions.
