i just used bleach to clean off the algae build up on one of my tanks. How do i make it safe for my fishes now? How long should i wait for it to dry? Is there anything else i need to do get rid of the bleach residue?? I washed it out with water and letting it dry for now.

You murdered your fish........

Why the extreme of bleaching buddy????Does your tank sit next to a fiery window in which the sun has grown a too thick of a layer to rub off by sponge?!?!?!?lol.....CHill next time....Try to keep your aqaurium free of any chemicals, unless it is conditioner or plant fertilizer....Now back to you problem....I am hoping you DID take out the fish while doing this treatment, right????If so, I assume the tank is completly empty of all life and decorations.....EMPTY....Take her outside and give it a couple power rinses with the hose...Dry and scrub.....Power rinse again....You should be set....

LoL. The tank has been sitting for months and there were alot of algae build up that is very hard to take off. Trust me, i try using just hot water and scrubbing as hard as i can, but i guess letting it sit dry for months made it impossible to take off without bleach.

And yes, no fishes were harm in the process. We dont want to kill couple hundred dollar fishes around here.

Although it can be pain-stakingly boring and hard, use the most coarse sponge possible and scrub very firmly against the glass in a small area. This should get rid of it. I once did a 3ftx1ftx1.5ft tank covered with algae and it took me just over 40 minutes to clean it all using my method. Once wiped all over, a weekly scrubing keeps the algae away.

Ive used bleach before, You just need to wash the tank out very well and rinse several times. I have never had a problem. I fill the tank and let the chemicals bleed out into the water. do a cpl of 50% or so waterchanges over a few days then empty, fill and rinse again.

just drain and fill it a few times and add a lil extra dechlorinator... i have done this a few times nothing to worry about
