I just said the same thing to a friend that I"m staying with on vacation. He has a 30g long community tank. He was talking about cleaning it and said he was going to take out the plastic plants and bleach them! I flipped! I told him it would kill his fish, and he told me that he's done it for years and never lost a fish. He says that he just rinses the plants really well before putting them back. It's not a risk that I would take, but whatever.

In the case of your rocks, they are porous. Therefor, they may absorb the bleach and you may not get it all out. It's not well advised.

vinegar and hot water

If you leave them in the bright sun, that will bleach them. It may take a while, but it will work.

I bleached then boiled then left it out in the sun 2 days came out great.
fyi sunlight or dechlor or time or boiling deactivates bleach
