I need to clean out an old reef tank for freshwater use and was wondering if there is any product i can use other than just water to clean it out?
Cheers, Liam.

You can use pure ammonia.

Vinegar also works.

This is a pain. I just did this to a 240g I just bought that had major build up. What I did was let it soak for a while then drain the tank and carefully use a scraper to knock off all the build up.

i agree use the scraper for the build up did a salt tank once almost trashed because of the difficulty removing it , the ammonia would work just use in a good ventilated room and rinse well .
imo i would stick with vingar and a agae scrubber works good and less toxins down the drain..

Vineagr and a razor blade with lots of elbow grease. I used this method on 3 tanks I bought used from the lfs.
