Hi,
Anyone have any experience with a clear like gel build up in their tank?

I have had some collecting at the mouth of my drop checker, and on one of my submerged suction cups.

All water tests are well within normal perimeters for a planted tank. Maintenance is always done...........water changes, filter maintenance, pruning, removing mulm...............etc.

The bio load may be high, but my over filtration should take of that (app. 15X volume of the tank-884gph)

Its been suggested that it is bacterial, or organic growth. But that is just guesses.

I have Purigen on order.

Sounds like biofilm. Is there good circulation in areas covered in slime?

Hi,

Actually that is the best answer, I have received after months of looking.

I have never heard of bio film, nor know the causes. I am assuming you do and circulation is one of the causes. I have 884 gph of flow and filtration, supplied by 2 Eheim spraybars and a lily type output pipe in a 72 gal. bowfront . I run a curtain of air for 8 hours a night, when the Co2 is off, and a UV 2 days a week.

The effected area is only the size of a dime, on the mouth of my drop checker.

I was beginning to think, my slime problem was unique to my setup. Most of the experienced folks on other forums, guessed it was bacteria. No one had any suggestions on its cause, eradication, or specifically what it was.

Am I one of the few to experience this?

I will search the net for bio film 411.
