idk what it is, but whenever i do a water change and my water looks clearer than before, it just seems to make me paranoid. it gives the feeling that there is nothing in the water floating around that will feed my benebac.
sure, the aesthetics of clear water are amazing, but strange as it may sound, i care more for the health of my aquarium residents than how the tank looks. i guess i'm caught on the little contradiction that people focus on tanks to "recreate nature" but there are so few places in nature with crystal clear water. random thought. that's all. carry on.

True..there are few places in nature with crystal clear water but then they tend to have the advantage of almost constant water changes so it all evens out in the end.

Just because the water's crystal clear doesn't mean it's free of ammonia or nitrates, otherwise all we'd need for our tanks would be a water polishing mechanical filter.

The only thing about crystal clear water that i don't like is that my fish scare easier, but it really doesn't make that big of a difference. I like it when the fish look like they are floating.

Visibility means nothing.

If you have tons of water polishing your water will appear clear but the visible waste is still going to end up in your filters to provide ammonia and nitrites for your bacteria.

Besides the visible waste, your fish put off invisible waste also, not just poop.

But remember - The more waste your bacteria has to feed on the higher your nitrates will end up, and they can only be eliminated by either plants or water changes. The more waste you have, the more bacteria you have, and while it's good to have an adequate bacterial colony, the more bacteria the higher your nitrates. Nitrates are the waste that your nitrifying bacteria produce.
