in my external filter at the moment i have biomax bio media and the fluval standard sponges, my water is clear but i have seen clearer water in other malawi setups, is there something else i need to use to the the water that bit clearer ? also should the biomax ever be changed or is can it be used for a long time, it says on the fluval website to change it every 3 months.

i have a 260l tank but with rocks, using a fluval external 304 and 205 with the biomax and sponges, i will be adding 2 powerheads with sponge filters attached for internal filtering and water movement.

what will give me that extra clear water ?? ;)

Emperor 280 or 400 bio-wheel power filter. Best ever made, IMO. :)

I know many will disagee with me, but go ahead and put an undergravel filter in part of the tank. The water will be crazy clear. Small particles make the water look a little misty. Most filters cant catch these particles. You can get a special filter to catch these or just add a small undergravel filter. GL

i know some filters will be better than others and fluval is not one of the best, but i would have thought it had nore to do with the actual media than the filter, as long as water was being passed thru the media filtering would take place. just my thoguhts i could be wrong

i have coral sand and malawi tend to dig, a partial undergravel filter is possible but i would rather use a different media with the filters i have. What 'special filter' do you mean ?

Put some Purigen by Seachem in your canister, the water will be so clear you can drink it!
