Clicking noise from tank

At night I have recently started hearing a rather annoying clicking noise. Kind of like a mini chisel and hammer going at my glass tank. It seems to go cling..(5 second pause)...cling.... cling.. Then it waits about 10-20 minutes and starts again. I don't think it's any of my equipment since I've never heard it before. I was thinking perhaps it could be a pistol or mantis shrimp? I don't know if I should be worried or not, right now I'm just annoyed. Any thoughts?

Pistol shrimp will sound lick snapping fingers or if big enough like two blocks of wood smacking together..
I had a hermit crab adopt a large shell and would smack the glass at night??
Get a flashlight and check it out!?

Your crab would smack the glass? I have a big hermit, maybe its him then. It sounds like If I were to tap a coin on the glass

it's a pistol or a mantis. lure it in with a bait in a plastic bottle. Pistols are cool and fit in a reef tank but mantises may wreck your whole tank by killing everything or smashing the glass - rare

either a pistol or mantis shrimp try putting in a mantis shrimp trap and see what you come up with

just put a glass or plastic bottle in there and bait it with frozen food at night the shrimp will go in there eventually.

Could be one of your hermit crabs shells hitting the glass, mine do it all the time.
