Meet my babies! the Climbing Perch is about 6 inches long, Florida Gar is about 9 to 10 inches long, that Crocodile! and the Polypterus is about 10 to 11 inches and she's a Dragon! Both Florida Gar and Polypterus look about the same length though. But they're around there. I hope you like them!:)

What species is the perch? Its so pale

I believe it's the Anabas testudineus, can grow up to 20-25cm. I am still unsure whether what I have is a male or a female, female is said to be larger, particularly when in spawning condition, males may be darker with a more of a knife-edged anal fin than females. The one I have tend to change its colour according to surrounding and emotion, he can be totally pale as you see or a little dark with tiger like stripes on the sides of his body or totally darker, black looking.

Edit: Forgot to mention that sometimes he would also bring his spots near his tail visible.

And check out these two pictures to see one of the colour differences he makes.

Very nice!
I wonder if Climbing Perch are legal in Cali?

Thank you! and I am not sure if Climbing Perch is legal and available in Cali, you can find them here so easily since it's one of their native countries, but sadly unlike other pet fish that you would see in a nice fish tank, this fish is often kept in an empty tank ( sometimes not even a fish tank ) with dirty water like some may see in a typical morning asian market....why? I don't know, guess they don't respect the fish. There's this attitude with people that if a fish is local and many in the area people don't give much attention, especially if it's a food fish as well.....like the typical attitude that goes ," when people have, they take it for granted until that thing is gone."

And another absolute reason being that it's not a colourful fish, it's a so called "low standard" or "cheap" fish, absolutely cheap being sold for even one ringgit malaysia if not near two ( like a fish sold for your one dollar if not near two ). So yes it's all about money and own created image for these humans, being superficial about fish...just pathetic. I love Climbing Perch, it's one of my favourites and always will be, and I find them very adorable and intelligent, not to forget that they're excellent jumpers too. I have had and been around many in my childhood but as a child I took them for granted...now I am making it up for Climbing Perch.

Here comes the cutie!:headbang2
