Has anyone kept these guys, I currently have two, they are grey with a black spot near the tail. Looking for a size max on these guys? any ideas or tips for keeping them?

do you mean cten's? there are a few different kinds of those post up a pic if ya can!

The ones you have get about 10". Its a food fish over seas. They like to jump out of tanks so make sure you have a tight lid. Also they can be aggressive so be careful when picking tankmates. Anabas Testudineus(climbing perch) will eat all kinds of different foods and is always active swimming in all different heights of the tank.

nope not a centopoma

they get around8'' can get a little bigger but most likely not in aquariums can be a little mean some like to nip also i think they are brackish but can be kept in freshwater i think not possative

Agreed, i've got one and he's a mean SOB. doesnt seem to do any damage to anyone but mean none-the-less.

I have been keeping them for a little while now . . .they are very active and fun to watch, although admittedly drab looking. They will do well in almost any type of water . . .they are primarily freshwater although I've heard they can do well in brackish. They need to breathe air and will supposedly drown if not given enough space to breath air at the top of the tank . . .because of their partial dependance on air they can survive water conditions that would kill many other fish. I keep the water temp around 80 and they do real well. They are voracious eaters and will eat pretty much anything they swallow. Learned this the hard way when they swallowed two blind cave tetras that were each about half of their size, so be careful that what you put in with them is about the same size and can fend for themselves. The three I have bicker endlessly among each other too. Supposedly they grow to about 11 inches in the wild, though I've never seen them that big in captivity and mine are about 6 inches. well fitting tank top is important or they will jump out pretty quick . . .hope that helps

i had one that i tossed into the pond.
they get around 10 inches,8 inches more likely.
love to chase around other fish and nip them.
eat anything.

You talking about this kind of perch right?
