i was doing a routine water change and decided to check out all my equipment for effecencey. my powerheads where putting out water but very slowly. the bottom of the powerhead has a built in screen and it was clogged pretty bad. i have never noticed before because during water changes i turn everything off.

now my powerheads are so much stronger and it seems to make my fish swim around more. they love the strong current. i have also heard that a harder current promotes growth....i guess its like working out.

is this true?

I havent heard anything like that but you may be right. What was it clogged with?

There are many fish that remain healthier if they get a current to swim against. The exercise keeps them from geting flabby.

it all depends on the individual fish. some fish come from very fast flowing waters in the wild and are used to a lot of current. many of these in fact require a lot of water movement if for nothing else to make sure there's enough oxygen in the water. this is why I believe several cichlids (beani, haitiensis, istlanum, etc) are prone to bloat. :D

The stronger current makes the fish swim more... EXERCISE! As you know, NO PAIN, NO GAIN! Helps keep the fishes healthy and aids in growth. My 0.02 ;)

Best regards.

Daniel.
