Is anyone using ClorAm-X powder in their cichla tank?
I normally use Prime but I'm kinda tired of pouring caps full of messy liquid. With so many water changes and tanks it gets to be a pain. And a 2L container don't last as long as it uses to.
I got 10lbs of ClorAm-X from Hikari which should treat 37,588 gal. Tried it for the first time tonight. Hope I don't end up with a tank full of dead fish in the morning.
Is the recommended dosage on the container acceptable? Do you use more or less? Feedback please.

Would it be wrong if I never used prime or anything of such?
But I had cichla breed for me?

It's not wrong if you can get away with murder. Am I wasting my money then?

Hawaii's water I different from SoCal water. I never use prime while I was in Hawaii. But in the states, it's a must. I can smell and taste the water quality. If it isn't Hawaii water, it isn't crap. That's the water I go by. Come on pearl city.

Okay, let me finish this 10 lb container and I'll meet you home. If all the fish are dead tomorrow it may be sooner.

Hell ya, when I was in Hawaii, I never used water conditioner.

It all depends on if your water supply adds chlorine or chloramines... Low levels of chlorine can (depending on where you live) basically be gone (or close enough to it) by the time it comes out of your tap. High levels of chloramine can kill a tank full of fish quickly without water conditioner. Chloramines will need to be treated with a product that contains a chlorine neutralizer AND have something in it to convert remaining ammonia to ammonium. They do not "gas off" either.
Ken, you know Seachem makes a powdered version of Prime? It's called Safe. But I'm sure this product you're using will essentially do the same thing.

I go thru 1000 gals every day or two.....a carbon block filter for $35 treats 40 to 50,000 gallons that takes care of both gases. Why piss in the wind with over priced chemicals?

Sodium Thiosulfate cheap & effective dechlorinator. I used it for years 18600 gal koi pond & some tanks.

A few years ago chloramines was added to my water now I use ChlorAmx. I don't know if it is ture but I was told it's toxic at 10x the dose.
