I'm in the planning stages of my "monster" and I want to help pick up waste up off the substrate and send it in to the water column to have a better chance of it making it in to the overflow. I'm thinking either a closed loop with a few intakes placed along the bottom with the out put placed either near the intake or actually in the overflow. The tank will be flush against the wall so it will be bottom drilled with a top to bottom weir. That or place 4 outputs 3-4" above the substrate to go along with a spray bar.

My worries with the closed loop is that it would be two more drilled holes so two more potential leaks. I'd also worry about fry being sucked in or some of the smaller fish being pulled up against it.

Right now the biggest draw back I can think of with the four outputs would be creating some crazy current when combined with the spray bar. I'd put ball valves on them to help dial the flow in but I'd essentially have flow coming across the top coming down the front glass meet flow coming across the bottom traveling up the front glass. Also with all the extra plumbing I'd have to go with a bigger pump but that's not a real big deal.

What do you guys think?
