180g FW tank
2 x overflow on back wall, 6" from corner
1 x 1" hole in each overflow (I built 1 1/4" Durso's, but did NOT do any gluing or drilling the top cap)
1 x 3/4" hole in each overflow (no hole in overflow body for exit of fresh water)
2 x Ocean Clear Canisters (1 w/bio media FULL & 1 w/std filter)
Reeflo Dart 3600gph external pump
Ready?
I think a majority of what is written here is geared toward W/D systems so I am trying to apply what I learn to what I want/have.
I built the Durso's to eliminate noise. I did NOT drill them as I think I need a vacuum sealed system. With a W/D sump, if the pump goes out or stops, the water will keep flowing into the sump because of the gravity feed.
In a closed loop system, the pump stops and the whole loop stops.
Here are my questions...
Do I need to drill through the overflow walls for the return lines?
If I don't do the above...
a) would I still get proper filtration?
b) wouldn't it eliminate ALL noise considering the water level would be constant?
Since the tanks 1" intake & 3/4" return are smaller than the pumps 2" suction & 1 1/2" return, am I losing flow rate?
I'm sure I'll have tons more questions to follow.
Thanks in advance,
Rob
