My female gaucha have "clouded eye" around the pupils not the entire eye, the rest of the eye are clear. I`ve been keeping a close eye on the water quality for a the last week and its not ammonia or nitrit causing it.

Whats the best way of getting rid of it, and what meds should i avoid ?
Will see if i can snap a pic of it later

Hello...

Are there tank mates? If so, you should isolate. In the isolation tank, elevate your temp to around 82-84 and add a small amount of salt. If it's an injury, it should heal in a couple of days. Continue keeping a close watch on water parameters in both tanks.

If you don't have a second tank, you can go ahead and raise the temp and add salt, but I would do this slowly. Make sure there is structure and again, keep watch over your tank.

Good luck!

I have a bunch of fry in the tank, but have spare tanks to isolate if needed.
I`m a bit concerned about using salt because its a snakehead, from what i`ve read and heard it can do more harm then good.
If it was a cichlid or any other fish i would have started with raised temp+salt from the day i observed the clouded eye.

i have used salt with all the channa i have kept without probs. aren't gauchua sub tropical? if so upping the temp to 82-84f will do more damage than good. the damage to it eye is minimal i would add some salt and wait it out, no need for meds unless it gets worse

strangely i have this issue on one of my rainbow snakeheads and i've done water changes to ensure the water quality is fine... idk whats going on...

For what it's worth, I had something very similar on one of my Rams eyes. I dosed Melafix two days in a row, then did a routine weekly WC, and it cleared up. Melafix tends to be my go-to

melafix can be risky with air breathers, i would avoid it.
