I have been keeping fish for like 5 uears now. I resently added 5 cichlids to my 125 tank with my other cichlids and did a water change just last week. I then saw my rams cichlids have severe fin rot and some of the new cichlids have fin rot also my leopard ctenopoma has cloudy eye. I added 2 jars for hiding one was painted and the other clear. I checked my levels and everything seemed right I was wondering if the painted jar could of lead to the fish having issues since I noticed some paint had wasted off. I have removed the jar. The fish were all healthy and lively before adding the new fish aswell. Currently treating with melafix and pimafix. Anyones advice is needed I help to figure out what is going on in my tank. I don't know if I need to water change just yet since tank is being treated for couple days.

The cloudy eye and fin rot suggest bad water quality. So the first thing I would do is make sure your keeping up with ur water changes and making sure ur ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are all under control. Eventually increasing ur water changes will improve the cloudy eye and fin rot. If it's not then you'd need antibiotics despite Melafix and pimafix. But u should post some pics with ur water parameters to get help.

Firstly get your water parameters in number form up here somewhere. Seems fine and is fine are two wildly different things.

I'm leaning towards this being water quality with the biofilter getting overloaded too quickly with the addition of the new fish. Either that or your new additions brought in some type of bacterial or fungal infection with them.

Mela/Pimafix are garbage. They are an ok anti-microbial supplement to the tank water, but for treating anything they are worthless.

for now I would stick to 25% water changes daily with the addition of Prime or Safe to nullify any ammo or nitrite in the water while your filter catches back up. I'd also consider grabbing some Seachem Paraguard and Methylene Blue (any brand is fine, I think I have hikari's version?) just in case this doesn't begin clearing up quickly since you'll need to start treating with actual meds.

Fin rot can be caused by fungus and i have used formalin malachite green to treat that and it works great. It is sold as kordon rid ich plus.

I did a 50% wayer change last night to wake up to my 4 year old ctenapoma swim bladder wasnt working, I had to be put him down. As when I got home he lost all color and lost the ability to swim and clouded eyes. Thanks everyone for the advice I have picked up medication in case this ever happens again hopefully not though I tried to save him but he was to far gone before I noticed a problem to begin with.
To those who asked
My ammonia was 0
Nitrite was 0
My ph was about 6.5 to 7
Nitrate was around 80s to 100 before the water change which I don't understand how it's so high.
My theory is either my peacock peaked his eye leading to a massive bacteria infection. Or he ran into something and got an infection he could fight off. I'm not to sure but I believe the peacock is terrorizing my tank might have to get rid of him if I'm correct.
