Over the past years I have had to deal with cloudy eye on a number of occasions. Usually the disease comes and goes over a week or so
After a lot of reading and monitoring my tank conditions I am pretty confident cloudy eye is the cause of TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS.
Unfortunately, living at home I am forced to keep my tank in a glass house extension that can be real hot and real cold in relative seasons. Because of this I have been keeping my tank at 30 degrees at most times (86 farenheit) - yes I know this is not ideal but I have found this is the only way to eliminate the risk of Ich and cloudy eye that I have struggled with over the years.
Again, I tried to lower the temp, slowly at 1 degree in 2 days - due to this the temp sat at 28 degrees and there has been times where the weather has been hot and by day the tank has come up to 30 and then back to 28 by night.
Right away, I have noticed cloudy and ich.
So, tips to take away from this are:
1) Ensure you do your best to maintain water temperature. This should be taken very seriously
2) Cloudy eye, in my experience, rarely comes around at 30 degrees (86 f)
3) Both cloudy eye and ich can be treated with only water changes and raising the temp - but be very careful not to do this too fast - a degree every 2-3 days is ideal
I have not used salt but a lot of people have had good success with it.
Hope this will help others
