I just realized my ornate had a cloudy eye and I believe it came in like that. I've had it for a couple months now and it's been very active. I've never seen it eat but it must be or it wouldn't survive. I was JW if it has basicaly lost its eye?

I've only had cloudy eyes on endli's, no more than a moderate haze that cleared up on it's own with increased water changes. Don't know how cloudy it can get before it's irreversible. Could just be damaged as well.

I've noticed it for a while and I just thought all ornates had reddish eyes then when it turned aroud today I saw its other eye was black.

I'll do 2-3 Wc's a week thanks!

cloudy eye usually happens on both eyes, and it can be treated by frequent water chance; It happened to my bichirs before;
There is also a Japanese medicine for fish, dunno what its called, but its in yellow powder and it is very effective for treatments...
cheers

it might be eye injury, if its bad, then the chance is.. it will go blind, and the eye color will turn black, which is what happened to one of my sen. But not to worry much since bichirs dont use their eyes to hunt. If its hasn't been that long, maybe you could still do the treatment, GL..

is there any sharp objects that he could of rubbed against to hurt his eye? my odoe got cloud because he ran into a rock which cut his eye. with WC, raised temp and salt, he healed within a week.

not that i know of because in its tank is just sand and 2 large fake plants that i use to cover up the filter intake and heater
