Cloudy new tank syndrome

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It depends what caused it. How long has the tank been cycled? Is the substrate new? We need more information about the history of the tank,

So not sure what you are asking? Do you know about the nitrogen cycle? If so, I'm assuming the tank isn't cycled and that's what's causing the cloudiness. How many fish and what size tank?
Have a read here if you don't know what I am talking about

I would get some of this:

I have used it many times, it will cycle your tank more or less overnight. I would do a water change while waiting for it in the mail; then add this stuff. It will make your tank cloudy for one day, then will clear up. Wait another day or two and do another water change. Then you should be free and clear of "new tank syndrome"

By all means add bacteria. Also, see if you can get some cycled media from your lfs. Get a test kit that tests for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Test every day before your water changes. You should gradually see ammonia and nitrite levels decrease, then nitrate levels increase. Continue with daily water changes until ammonia and nitrites are zero. Add water conditioner with each water change. I went through same thing. Gotta do daily changes if you want to keep your fish.
