Just set up my tank, been down and dry for over a year. Tank is old, filters are old.

Only 2 or 3 hours after setting it up, I have this.

Should the filters sort out the cloudiness overnight, should I add anything chemical wise, etc?

All my equipment is old. Filters are old, tank is old, etc. I cleaned the tank before I set it up.

I have 2 Emperor 400 HOBs running right now, and in a few days I will have a Fx5 in their place. Should this take care of it all? It’s not like I’m going to add fish now or anything, just don’t like a cloudy tank.

Thanks guys..

Should have got at least new filter pads. What size tank is that? Cause it looks big and the filters is just a bit small for it so it will most likely take a bit longer to clear up, but yes I would wait till tomorrow to see if it clears up

72g, 2 Emperor 400 bio-wheel blah blah filters. They run like crap as well, so they may not do much, may just have to suffer the cloudy water till my fx5 gets here.

Not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I have new sand in there. I washed/rinsed the sand before it went in, and the water was clear for a few hours, but then I look up, and BAM, cloudy water. Could the sand be leaching some wierd stuff into the water? I've had the same type of sand before, but it has never done this..

Its dust from the sand. Throw some filter floss in the filters to catch it or do water changes until clear.

Yea, I think it's worth it in the long run though. All i've ever done though was PFS, this stuff I have now is some black sand/finely crushed gravel mix. Never had a cloudy tank this bad before. Guess tomorrow will be full of water changes.. oh well.

Apparently my automatic heater is all messed up now too. I have it set to heat the tank at 80f, but i looked at the temp and it was over 90f. The heater just stays on. Anyone know any good reliable automatic heater brands?

Better to find that out now, than to end up cooking my fish later on down the road, no?

Aqueon Pro's are great heaters

Try turning it down, most heaters wont stay at the temp the dial says. Or unplug it plug it back in to reset it! Im sure u can turn the dial to find a correct temp! Just make sure u figure it out before ur fish go in
