i just put a second HO T5 on my tank and did a 50% water change at the same time. and my water is super cloudy for some reason. its not cloudy like greenwater is not cloudy like an uncycled tank. i was wondering if anyone has had this problem before? i guess it could be the start of green water but is more of a white color. any advice would help alot thanks.

well the only filters i have in there are those two sponges and i cleaned them when i did my water change but maybe i didnt do a good job of it tomorrow ill do another water change and clean the filters again and hopefully that will work.

Sounds like you might have the start of green water. Thats what my 29 gal did just before it went to pea soup. Since you've just added another light (a HO t5 nonetheless) that could be it. I bet a UV filter would really help right now.

ya i was thinking about doing that. thanks for the input. but i thought green water just happened like really bad all at once. am i completly wrong in this thinking? right now i only have one t5 running of 12 hours a day (was perfect and algea free last week) do you think it would be good to shorten that period tell the water clears?

No problem. Green water, in my experience, has come on fairly suddenly. But my version of suddenly is about a week. It sure seems quick, but if I really pay attention I can tell when I'm going to get green water over a week before it happens, just looking at how far I can see into my gray-ing water (its easy to do this in my 48" long tank).

I think that shortening the photoperiod could help the fight against green water. I'd try it if I were you, it certainly wouldn't help the algae out. Keep us posted on what you do and what happens! Good luck!

You know, I just had this problem as well. I just added a twin tube to my 55g. I thought it was a bacterial bloom at first. Then the water turned green. I've started today to leave the lights off all day. I've got them on a 12 hour timer. I've fed less, alot less, and I guess I'll step up my water changes to bi-weekly.

it is now a very green water. im blacking the tank out for 3 days then after that turn the lights on for 4 hours at a time then off for 2 hours then back on for 4 hours then off for the night. and i was told to add alot of plants the are fast growing. so i will try this out and see how it works and post my results incase others have a problem with this too.
