Hi,

Everytime I do a water change i seem to have white hazy water for a few days after, I am at a loss to find the source of the problem.

My water perimeters a perfect, I have the following filtration:

Eheim 2080
Eheim 2217
2L Moving bed filter
2L Vibrating bed filter

I have the moving bed and the vibrating bed filters stuck to the back wall of the tank.

When i water change i usually do about 20%.

Please can someone shed any light on why this is happening? The only thing I can think of that could be causing the haze is when the water level drops down, the bacteria from the moving and vibrating bed filters leaks out into the tank....(I have no idea just stabbing in the dark)

With the canister filters i have do I need the moving/vibrating bed filters? Are these overkill?

My 2080 has 1 tray of Eheim Mech Pro, and the other 2 trays filled with Seachem Martix...the 2217 is packed with the Eheim Blue sponges and is just a big mechanical filter.

thanks in advance for help!

It hapened to me once, I only can asume the water that I changed had too much chlorine so it affected the denitifiying bacteria colony partially killing it causing an ammonia spike, the cloudy water was the result of that ammonia spike.

Nevertheless bacteria colony didnt get totally killed so within 2 days water recovered its crystal clear appereance.

This my theoy to expain this, Im not 100% sure about it tough.

My water is always slightly cloudy for a couple of hours after a 50% waterchange, but usually clears up after that. Also curious as to what causes it.

Maybe I missed it, but what is the stock of the tank, size of the tank and what are you feeding the fish?

It is a 6x2x2, so i think its 180, i have:

12cm Tiger Oscar
12cm Flowerhorn
10cm Polini
10cm Red Devil
10cm Festea
12cm Jack Dempsy
8cm Green Terror
22cm Green Terror
25cm King Kong Parrot
3 x 15cm Sail Fin Pleco
35cm Black Shark
6 x 12cm Clown Loaches

They are fed floating pellets in the morning and beef heart and prawns in the evening

do I have too much filtration? could i remove the moving beds?

You could never have to much filtration. I would stop feeding the beef heart and feeding more pellets...floating and sinking.

I would do at lease 60% water change a week just to get the free floating food, poop and others particulates out of the water.

ok, i was told by the LFS that beef heart etc would grow the fish big... i did ask this question in a different thread but if you know, what type of food is best?

I can get:

Hikari
Tetra Colour
Aqua One

which is the best to go for?

Thanks

Ok so if I just fed the pellets and stayed on top of the others they will grow well.

Maybe I should stop feeding them the beef heart completely
