cloudy water and salt

does salt help clear the water?
few weeks ago, my filter went down, and I had to replace some parts to fix it. While waiting for the new parts, I did a water changed as usual and installed a temporary filter. As soon as the old filter was fixed, I then installed it back in my tank. The problem was the water went cloudy eversince, so I did more frequent water changed. The water was still cloudy till I add salt in it on the last water changed which is yesterday, thus eversince adding the salt, the water becomes more clear. What do you guys think?

The salt did not clear the water. Putting your old filter back on did. Was the "temporary" filter brand new or clean? If so, I'm guessing your tank cycled again. JMO.

actually its not about the new filter. Few days after I put the old filter back, the water was still cloudy, and I have to do more water change. And its been a week of cloudy water until yesterday.

unless your old filter was kept on a aqurium with fish to keep the BB live you could be going threw a mini cycle

Or your BB in the filter could have died while it wasn't being used..............
