Hey all. I have been having a problem with cloudy water in my 75gal tank. I have an fx5 filter on it and its been running since christmas. Until the last week my water started getting cloudy. I have changed the carbons and filter pads and have done a few water changes but still cloudy with a yellow tint. I have driftwood in the tank also. I have vacummed the gravel a few times as well. any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. thanks:WHOA:

What are you water readings and how long has the driftwood been in there? From the sounds of it sounds like the driftwood is just releasing tannins and is normal and will tank some time before your tank clears up.

If the drift wood is a new addition the yellow tint could be from tannins leaching. The cloudy part could be from a lot of things. Any chance something died and went unnoticed? Or you over cleaned and killed of the bacteria and it is cycling again?

thanks....i was thinking it could be the driftwood. i have tried the tetra water clarifier and it has done nothing to change the cloudy tint. being that it could be the driftwood is this something that happens often. ( i never used driftwood in full tanks.) Also it could also be I over cleaned I wouldnt doubt its a combination of those. hopefully it will cycle itself soon... i want my clear water back.

By reading your opening post, you have done only a few WC since Christmas? Be truthful, so that we can better help you... and that's just the way I read it... of course I could be completely wrong.

What is your stock?

How long has the drift wood been in, it will release tannins for a long time sometimes.. so I don't doubt that your yellow tint is coming from that... but the cloudyness is something else..

Also how long do you leave your lights on? in hours a day...

What about your water parameters what are they? Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and ph, ssing how you said you changed your filter pads your tank could be in a mini cycle but won't know without the readings.

+1 its prob the driftwood releasing tannins. about all i know that will make yellow water without all your fish dying, wont harm them some (myself) like the look of that.

havent checked water parameters in a week. will check them tomorrow dont have self test kit. stock is 2 oscars, peacock bass, pleco, marbl x tsn , id shark...and before any flamming I know how big my fish will get. this is all temp. thanks again for the responses
