Hey guys, I need some advice..
I bought a new 65g tank with top filter & 3 days later the water is cloudy.. How do I keep the water clear? I've a flowerhorn, a juvi oscar, a c.knife, a crayfish & a small pleco in it..
Thx.

Probably caused by nitrites. Is the tank cycling?

Give it a few weeks, it will clear up. Cycling will make the water milky but that goes away.

And NO do not pull you media or your cycle will be starting from scratch all over again.

Your tank is 3 days old and is not cycled meaning there is no bacteria to deal with the ammonia your fish are producing. Ammonia is very bad for the health of your fish and will eventually kill them.

Better go out and buy a good test kit to test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. Research the nitrogen cycle as it pertains to the aquarium(see the link below for a start). In order to save the fish ypou will likely have to do alot of water changes in order to keep ammonia and nitrite levels safe for the fish, below .25 ppm.

Hob filters are a joke in the filtering dept, Do your self a favor and go buy a canister filter off ebay or craigs list cloudy water = weaksaucefiltration With canister filters they can run for months without any problems

Word to that!

When I first got my tank. Went to the local fish store and grab some old dirty foam from there tank. Put that in my tank and let it run from there. Worked out well for me and 2 days later water is CLEAR and put fish in the same day. GOod luck to you sir...

your tank is not cycled yet.. changing the media will not help..

heres a decent link about cycling.. read it.. if you have more questions ask its what we are here for
