I'm sorry if this isn't the right area to post this. I have some really cloudy water in my tank. It looks to me to be white cloudy. I have a 30 gallon tank, penguin 200 biowheel filter (running for two weeks now). My old hob filter quit working. I also have an under gravel filter. I do weekly full gravel vacs, and water changes when ever my nitrates get noticably above 20 ppm (usally twice a week).

My water parameters are: nitrites 0ppm, ammonia 0ppm, Nitrates around 30 ppm. I do have hard water, wich is also slightly alkaline. I use the aquarium pharmasutical master test kit for fresh water. I also use jungle quick dip strips as a second oppinion if my readings don't seem right (just to make sure I don't mess up)

I also started using purigen in conjunction with my regular filter media. And I use seachem's "Prime" to declorinate my tap water. My water temp is 78 degrees.

I have only one fish in my tank. A 10" pleco. If more info is need let me know and I'll do what I can to get it.

If you have any tip or ideas I'm open to try almost anything. And just to let you know I will be moving my pleco into a larger tank as soon as I can get one this summer. Thank you for the help.

sounds like a bacterial bloom two weeks not eneogh for the filter to ebstablish will probably cloud up for a few more weeks yet just change the water when the nitrates get high

When I changed out my filters, I threw my old media in with the new filter. I heard you should do this so that you don't loose too much of you good bacteria. I will keep plodding along with the water changes, and wait to see what happens, Thank you.

Howdy,

Do a search on MFK for "cloudy water", and you'll find out you are not the only one. Most likely, water changes, improved biofiltration and reduced feeding will help.

Get more bio media and in the mean time monitor the water parameters and do partial water changes accordingly.

i had the same prob i have one 30-60 power filter from wal mart came with the 55 tank no bio wheel model bummer so i got a 2nd filter a marineland emperor 400 dual bio wheel and in 10 hrs my water was crystal clear so i think u need more bio filter area like the other guys said it really does help if u can affors it buy one from big als online they have the best price :headbang2

Partial water changes a couple times a week, let your filter develope a good colony, increase the surface movement in the tank, and be very careful not to overfeed. This happens sometimes, usually in newly set up tanks, they sell "miracle cures" but a bit of patience and care is all that is needed, just watch out for a fall in the O2 level, that is why you want to increase the surface exchange.

water changes, patience, and a couple of air stones will help!!!
