Whats this cloudiness look like to you guys?

Info:

Setup tank 7 days ago

Running a FX5 with bio rings in all baskets and 2 pads, 1 fine 1 polishing

Also running a Mag 350 (what should I have in this filter, carbon or the paper filter)

Put some cheaper Africans in 3 days ago to start the cycling

Tested water yesterday and 0 ammonia 0 nitrites or nitrates

The water was a little cloudy when I set it up, I guess from the PFS and Dry Rocks even though I cleaned them for ever but it cleared up for fairly well after 2 days.

So have a look and tell me what you think it is and what you would do or should I just be patient and let it be if you think it just has to do with the cycling process?

Looks OK from the front but.....

Thanks for the help!

Howdy,

Looks like a tank that's just been set up. Might be suspended particles from your sand, or a bacterial bloom. Gotta be patient.

I agree. Actually I think I am following Harley around lol... You said the sand was cleaned pretty good too? 7 days is quite awhile.

Yeah I cleaned the pool filter sand in a Rubbermaid container for several minutes in 6 different cleanings so as not to have too much sand in the container each time.

I forgot to mention my PH level is high, 8.2

Also when I touch the plastic filter parts in the tank they are beginning to feel a little slimy if that helps tell you what stage the cycle is at?

Ive not had a tank set up for 12 years so I feel a little like a noop again.

Thanks OnceLoyal & HarleyK for the help here.

Yeah, just wait it out. You should however be seeing some ammonia after 7 days. Without ammonia the cycle will not start. I guess you can try feeding a little more, to try and get some ammonia going. The "cycle" can take up to one month, sometimes more.

Also check your params daily. Make sure the ph is not fluctuating. 8.2 should be fine for africans, as long as it's steady. If you find it to change, even the slightest daily, then try adding some crushed coral to your sand bed. It would look nice too.

yeah just looks like youv got to finish out your cycle by the way NICE set up where did you get your rocks from? (marcorocks?)

haha thought so lol weird how sometimes you can tell where rocks come from lol but yeah thats great once you get your water set then your little africans will really enjoy all those caves and crevices! also if you want to clear it up faster a little carbon always helps, just keep it on there until water clears up and then once everything is cycled you can take it out again, i know whenever i have cloudy water problems a little carbon clears it right up:)
