Guys,
I've been keeping fish for a good part of my life and have never had an issue with cloudy water, except during the usual temporary initial set-up periods...however I've got cloudy water now and I can't seem to clear it.

Particulars as follows...

- 29 gallon home-built tank (dimensions 24"Lx24"Wx12"H) with lots of surface area.
- 150 watt submersible heater
- Penn Plax Cascade 700 canister filter (185 gph) with coarse filter, fine filter and HBH Aqua-Pure water purifier (carbon and zeolite).
- Smooth black aquarium gravel, well washed before putting it in.
- a couple of plastic plants, a piece of petrified wood (rock), and a chunk of driftwood.
- Ammonia level 0 ppm. Just checked it.

Occupants...(lengths are approximate)
2 - 2 1/2" Spanner Barbs
2 - 4 1/2" Ornate Bichirs
1 - 4 1/2" Clown Knife
1 - 3 1/2" Oxydoras niger

And don't worry, the fish are going into a much bigger home as they grow out a bit more...

I should mention that about a week-and-a-half ago I fed the fishes some frozen Mysis shrimp, and the water's been cloudy ever since - would that have anything to do with it? This was the first time I've ever tried the Mysis shrimp - I figured that the barbs would love them (and they did) seeing as the shrimp are a bit bigger and meatier than Brine shrimp.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Cheers!

Simon

What's your water change schedule like?
x2......
And did you wash out or replace your filtere media last time you did a water change?

Approx. 25% per week water changes, and the last water change on Sunday I added new Aqua-Pure to the canister filter instead of the straight carbon I'd been using. I didn't touch my other media apart from a squeeze of the coarse foam filter in aquarium water...

I should mention that in the past I've always used the "evil" under-gravel filters in my tanks in various combinations with power and canister filters as well, and I've never used a canister as the sole method of filtration on a tank, so it's a bit different for me...

Cheers!

Simon

I must be doing something wrong - but I try to feed my fishes as individually as possible and I don't let food accumulate, I siphon my gravel during water changes, etc...
