I have two emperor 400s running on a 75g tank. Its been cycling for about 2.5 weeks and the water is still pretty cloudy. I've checked the water and everything reads fine it just looks bad. What could be the problem? I've been doing water changes but still no improvement in water clarity. My other tanks are running fluval or aquaclear filters but I heard emps were pretty good as well.

I tried 48 hours of no light no sun. Complete darkness and it helped my tank dramaticlly. I would also suggest the clear up drops after 48 hours of darkness. If you can leave the fish under complete darkness it will only help clear your water up. I only did 48 hours because of my stocking levels and aggresion in my tank. The suggested time was 7 days!

I run an emperor 400 on a 55 and a emperor 280 on a 55 with a ugf. I have noticed that if you don't wash the cartridges well charcoal will get into your water and take up to a week to get out, but your water changes should have taken care of the problem.

the filters are brand new and the stocking level can't be the cause. I only have a 7" bichir and 6" rainbow wolffish in there. the fish are fine, just cloudy water. didn't want to resort to the clear up drops but i may have too.

i ordered some new (and better) filters for the emp 400 off drsfostersmith site but when i got home and used the clear up drops it worked like a charm. water is now supa clear. who knew they'd work? ha!

chemicals are the devil...lol...well at least IMO they are...i don't like to add anything to my water other than buffer to assure my water is at the correct pH...i just haven't found the necessity to add anything else...especially if you age your water for at least a day to remove chlorine.
